In brief

  • Shivaan Asset Management supports one member of the consortium delivering the first phase of an enterprise-wide defence communications network modernisation programme.
  • That first phase covers the design of organisation-wide voice and data networking across terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication systems.
  • The engagement is systems engineering safety assurance for the fast-track and new-design systems.
  • It runs across four review streams: DFMECA, the hazard log, fault tree analysis outputs, and preliminary and detailed design system safety assurance reports.

Project Overview

The project was initiated to plan and design the modernisation of an enterprise-wide defence communications network, delivered by a consortium in which our client, a Defence Contractor, is a member. The first phase of the programme covers the design of organisation-wide voice and data networking across terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication systems. Shivaan Asset Management Pty Ltd is contracted to support one of the consortium members.

Scope Of Work

Shivaan Asset Management has been engaged to provide our expertise in Systems Engineering, Safety Assurance, for the fast-track and new-design terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication systems.

Shivaan Asset Management has been engaged to provide support for:

  • Review of DFMECA
  • Review and Verification of various attributes of the Hazard Log
  • Review and Recommendations of Fault Tree Analysis Outputs
  • Development of Preliminary and Detailed Design System Safety Assurance Reports

Three of those reviews use terms specific to safety engineering. A DFMECA, or Design Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis, works through how a design can fail, what each failure would do, and how serious it would be. A hazard log is the controlled register of every identified hazard, its controls and its current status. Fault tree analysis works backwards from an unwanted event to the combinations of faults that could cause it.
